Alinama Design responded tothe Buildner Architecture Competitions for a Kingspan Microhome ArchitectureIdeas Competition by developing a unique and innovative solution for a compactoff-grid modular dwelling. The challenge called for a 25 sqm dwelling designed for a young professional couple, prioritising sustainability, affordability, and community integration.
Located in Central Coast NSW, our microhome design focussed on providing efficient key spaces within a dome-shaped dwelling. Being an off- grid microhome, the dome had flexible solar panels with battery, a rainwater tank, and herbal/vegetable gardens to the entry of the dome to provide fresh produce to the residents.
The sloped site had the potential to host 6 x dome microhomes. The domes were situated on site to suit the contours from street level down to the coastline. With 3 x domes to thenorth-east wing and 3 x domes to the south-west wing, both wings are connectedby a central footpath. Both wings are staggered in plan and section to provide privacy with the spaces within and outdoor areas.
